Obituary for Joe Roy Allen, Jr.

Joe Roy Allen, Jr. age 87, of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, passed away at 8:35 p.m. on Thursday, February 22, 2018, at his home. He was born November 29, 1930, in Stotts City, Missouri, the son of Joe Roy and Jewell (Powell) Allen, Sr.

As a teenager, Joe moved to Aurora, Missouri, where he was a 1948 graduate of Aurora High School. After graduation he served with the Army National Guard in Aurora from 1949 until 1952. After the service, he moved to Texas in 1952 and stared in the manufacturing business of ladies apparel. He was one of the first to manufacture the ladies shirt dress. He returned to Mt. Vernon in 2016.

On December 30, 1950, he married Betty Jean Miller, in Harrison, Arkansas.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Betty; one son, Timothy Roy Allen and his wife, Julie, of Keller, Texas; six grandchildren, Forrest Allen of San Antonio, Texas, Meredith and Mathew King, of Ft. Worth, Texas, Wesley, Nicholas and Katelyn Allen, all of Keller, Texas.

His parents, Joe and Jewell, son, Steven Joe Allen, two sisters, Mildred “Mimi” Kenyon and Lena June Journagan and one brother, John Allen preceded him in death.

A memorial service, under the direction of the Crafton-Cantrell Funeral Home, in Aurora will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 3, 2018, at the Aurora First Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be held from 1:00-2:00 p.m. on Saturday at the church. A reception will follow immediately after the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Aurora First Presbyterian Church in care of the funeral home.
