Obituary for Carol Ann Pilkenton

Carol Ann (Thurman) Pilkenton passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2019, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri, at age 83 with family by her side. She was born in Charity, Missouri October 6, 1935, to Lawrence A. Thurman and Gertrude A. Thurman.

She graduated from Aurora High School class of 1953. Carol Ann then graduated from Drury University in Springfield, Missouri in 1957 with an A.B. degree in Sociology with a lifetime Elementary Teaching Certificate and was a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority. She started her teaching career in Aurora, Missouri, at the Franklin School teaching fifth grade for three years.

She married J.D. Pilkenton on December 22, 1957, in Aurora, Missouri. They had their first son, Robert Scott Pilkenton, August 3, 1960 and second son, Bennett Jay Pilkenton, July 23rd, 1964.

Carol Ann was a member of the First Presbyterian Church for 71 years and served on many committees, boards, and service groups. She was a member of The PEO sisterhood and Daughters of American Revolution for many years. Carol Ann was an avid bridge player and enjoyed her Aurora and Shell Knob bridge club friends. She was an avid golfer in her younger years, and enjoyed playing with her friends and family. But most of all she loved spending time with her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Carol Ann is survived by her husband of 62 years, J.D. Pilkenton of Aurora, Missouri; two sons, Robert Scott Pilkenton and his wife, Kaye of Aurora, Missouri and Bennett Jay Pilkenton and his wife, Becky of Monett, Missouri; four grandchildren, Seth Seitz and his wife, Amy, Talia Stone and her husband Kris, Abbey Pilkenton, and Nicholas Pilkenton; four great-grandchildren, Brody Seitz, Lyla Seitz, Theran Seitz, and Silvy Stone; one sister, Linda Carr and brother-in-law J.D., of Aurora, Missouri.

Carol Ann is preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Gertrude, brother, Bob Thurman, and nephew, Kent Thurman.

A funeral service under the direction of the Crafton-Cantrell Funeral Home in Aurora will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 10, 2019, at the Aurora United Methodist Church with burial to follow at the Maple Park Cemetery in Aurora. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, 2019, at the church.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Aurora United Methodist Church in care of the funeral home.
