Obituary for Helen Leonora "Lee" Porter

Lee Porter, of Neosho, Missouri, formerly of St. Louis, Missouri, passed away at 1:47 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22, 2019, at her home. She was born July, 30, 1938, in McClure, Illinois, the daughter of the late John and Daisy (Roach) Craig. Lee was a 1956 graduate of East St. Louis High School. She grew up in the Alta Sita community on Brady Avenue. It was there, she met her lifelong friends, Jean, Jane, Joan, and Mary, and along with her little sister, Delores, they were known as the “Brady Brats.”

Following graduation she worked for the Federal Reserve Bank where she met her dear friends, Vi, Pat and, Julie. She later went on to work for Anheuser-Busch working her way from the mail room to a Payroll Clerk. Lee was always proud of obtaining a job from one of the more prestigious employers in St. Louis. Her strong work ethic and commitment to excellence set a great example for her children. Following her retirement from A.B., Lee worked for Southwest Bank for an additional 10 years.

Lee enjoyed dancing, bowling, and more than anything, spending time with her two grandsons, Josh and Lane. Many spoke of the fact that she actually ‘beamed’ with the mere mention of their names. Lee was blessed to acquire two bonus grandsons, Taylor and Tanner Boman and thought the world of them. Everyone who came in contact with her knew they were the “best grandsons in the whole world.” Aside from God, the boys were the most important treasures of her life.

On June 14, 1970, Lee became a baptized and confirmed member of Peace Lutheran Church where she remained a communicant member until her August 2016 departure to Neosho, Missouri.

Upon her failing health, Lee moved to Neosho, Missouri, in 2016, to be near her daughter and son-in-law, Darren. This regretful move ended up being a true joy and blessing for her and her family. Lee absolutely loved her new home on the farm, watching the birds, cows, horses, and dogs, Ribbon and Lucy.

She is preceded in death by her father, John Craig, mother and stepfather, Daisy and Larry Dunne, son, Barry Porter and the father of her children, Ron Porter.

Lee is survived by her daughter, Jill, and her husband, whom she thought of as a son, Darren; four very special grandsons, Josh and Lane McCulloch, and Taylor and Tanner Boman; her sister, and her husband, Delores and Jay Barnett and their family, and a host of very special friends.

We will celebrate Lee’s life with a visitation from 2:00-3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28, 2019, at the Peace Lutheran Church, 737 Barracksview Rd. in St. Louis with funeral services to follow at 3:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Peace Lutheran Church or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in care of the Crafton-Cantrell Funeral Home, 303 S. Jefferson Ave., Aurora Missouri 65605.
