Obituary for Sue Ellis

Sue Ellis, age 85, of Aurora, Missouri, passed away at 10:50 a.m. on Wednesday, August 14,
2019, at the Aurora Nursing Center. She was born September 19, 1933, in Aurora, Missouri.
She was the daughter of Hugh and Lucille (Carney) Gardner.

Sue was a 1951 graduate of Aurora High School. After graduating from high school, she was
employed at the Juvenile Shoe Corporation in Aurora for a short time. She was a control
Supervisor for Mid America Dairy for 36 years. Sue was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Aurora, Missouri for over 50 years. During that time, she served as a deacon and treasurer. She was also a member of Chapter JE of PEO.

On August 17, 1951, she married the love of her life, Don Ellis, in Aurora, Missouri. He
preceded her in death on November 21, 1975. Of this union, three children were born. She is
survived by her son, Craig Ellis and his wife, Jody, of Aurora, Missouri; two daughters, Donna
Helgerson and her husband, Richard, of Aurora and Stacey Ellis Boyce and her husband, Brad, of Springfield, Missouri; five grandchildren, Andy Garrison, Nick Garrison, Stephanie Taylor, Jennifer Ellis and Jerrod Curl and seven great-grandchildren, Devin, Layne, Hailey, Emma, Ellie, Cam and Braden.

Sue was preceded in death by her mother, Lucille (Carney) Gardner, who died when Sue was
16. Sue continued being raised by her father, Hugh Gardner, and his two sisters, Ethel and
Hazel Gardner, who also preceded her in death.

Sue retired at the age of 62 to begin her new adventure. Sue’s first trip after retirement was in a Semi-truck, cross country to California, with her second son, Wayne Elliott. Sue had many friends. She traveled to numerous places and had many great times with special friends, including the Golden Girls.

During her travels, Sue experienced time with celebrities Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, and
Tiger Woods. Sue also spent her free time at her beloved lake home on Table Rock Lake that she and Don purchased in 1972. Special memories at the lake are held by many friends and family.

The family would like to say a special thank you to Autumn Court, Mt. Vernon, Missouri; Aurora Nursing Center; Dr. Hee Sun Kim, Springfield, Missouri; Alzheimer’s Association; Haven Hospice, Ozark, Missouri.

Funeral service under the direction of Crafton-Cantrell Funeral Home, in Aurora, Missouri, will
be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, August 19, 2019, at the First Presbyterian Church, Aurora,
Missouri. Burial will follow at Maple Park Cemetery, Aurora, Missouri. Visitation will be held from 3:00-5:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 18, 2019, in the funeral home chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made payable to the Aurora First Presbyterian Church, in care of the funeral home, or mailed directly to the church at 4 East College Street, Aurora, Missouri, 65605.
