Obituary for Thomas Ray Whaley

Thomas Ray Whaley, age 70, of Everton, Missouri, passed away at 8:47 a.m. on Tuesday, April 10, 2018, at his home. He was born February 27, 1948, in Springfield, Missouri, the son of Roy Ancil and Novagene (Woolford) Whaley.

Tom was a 1966 graduate of Hillcrest High School in Springfield and he attended Missouri State University. He was a United States Navy veteran serving during the Vietnam Era. Tom retired after 39 years as a supervisor for the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad.

We lost a good man this morning. Tom suffered a heart attack and left us this morning. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to so many. He was Deborah’s life partner. They were living the dream-everyday. Last winter when the pipes had been frozen for eight days, creek was frozen, no water, hell on earth to most. Trevor and I (Terra) walked across the frozen creek, up the hill to find them toting big totes of water on the four wheeler. I told them they were crazy! He looked at me and said “we’re living the dream, we have each other” and started unloading those heavy water containers with a smile on his face. “We love it here”. Last summer they would take dips in their little pools and enjoy a bowl of ice cream. He was always there. Tom worked so hard with Deborah by his side, on their dream property. He will be missed more than I can possibly say. He was a good man who kept Deborah smiling and was always there for his family. Tom will do it, Tom can fix it, Tom will figure it out, and he did. Treasure your loved ones. Give them your precious time. We never know what tomorrow will bring.

On July 24, 2010, he married Deborah Darr-Brown, in Aurora, Missouri.

Tom is survived by his wife, Deborah; one son, Daniel Whaley, of Aurora, Missouri; two daughters, Angela Reynolds of Kansas City, Missouri and Diana Whaley of Springfield, Missouri; one brother, Michael Whaley and his wife, Jane, of Peculiar, Missouri; two sisters, Saundra Nigliazzo and her husband, Sam, of Brighton, Missouri and Patricia Kern and her husband, David, of Republic, Missouri; four step children, Terra Williams and her husband, Trevor, of Aurora, Teresa Smith and her husband, Doug, of Republic, Torianna Newton and her husband, Kevin, of Springfield and Thomas Waller of California; eight grandchildren; one great- grandson and several nieces and nephews.

His parents, Roy and Novagene, preceded him in death.

A funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 14, 2018, at the Crafton-Cantrell Funeral Home in Aurora. Visitation will be held from 6:00-7:00 p.m. on Saturday, in the funeral home chapel.
