Obituary for Neal Fredric Anderson

Neal Anderson passed away on September 3, 2018 at Elfindale Manor, in Springfield, Missouri after a long illness. He was preceded in death last year by his beloved wife Janet (White) Anderson.

Neal was born in Kansas City, Missouri on September 30, 1933 to Ted and Peggy Anderson. He had one brother Ted Anderson. After graduating in 1951 from Paseo High School in Kansas City, Missouri, Neal attended Drury University where he earned a degree in Economics in 1955. Neal was an active member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity and met his wife Janet, a Pi Beta Phi, when Janet was named Sigma Nu “Sweetheart” and needed a date for the ceremony. After looking over the members of the fraternity, her current boyfriend away in the service Janet chose Neal as her escort and commented, “He was awfully good looking!” The rest was history. Janet and Neal married in Aurora, Missouri at the First Presbyterian Church on January 30, 1956. Neal and Janet remained active members of the church during their lifetime together.

After graduation Neal was recruited to Officer’s Training for the United States Marine Corps, serving in Quantico, Virginia and the Orient including Japan. Upon return to the United States the couple settled in El Toro, California for two years. Upon honorable discharge as a First Lieutenant, Neal and Janet returned to Missouri, settling in Aurora where Neal worked with his father in law Charles White at Charles White Motors. Upon Charlie White’s unexpected death, Neal purchased the dealership and Anderson Motor Company continued selling cars until his retirement in 1992.

Neal was an active member of the community, serving on the Aurora Hospital Board, a member of Rotary and The Shrine International Fraternity. Neal was a deacon for The First Presbyterian Church 1960-1963 and 1972-1975. In addition Neal continued to serve his country as a member of the Missouri National Guard.

Neal is survived by his daughter Leesa Anderson Newbold and husband Dr. Steven Newbold, of Springfield; son Douglas Frederic Anderson and his wife Amy Anderson, of Indian Rocks Beach, Florida; one Granddaughter Rebecca Newbold Metcalf and her husband Craig and his three great grandchildren, Anderson, Mac and Charlie of Springfield. He is also survived by brother in law Doug White and family; Rebecca White Meyer and family; and nephews Teddy, Andy, and David Anderson and niece Kay Anderson.

Neal is preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Janet White Anderson, granddaughter Andrea Newbold, his brother Ted Anderson and his parents Ted and Peggy Anderson.

On Friday September 7, 2018 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. a visitation under direction of the Crafton-Cantrell Funeral Home in Aurora, followed by a celebration of Neal’s life will be held at the First Presbyterian Church. A private burial service will be held at the Maple Park Cemetery.
